DUDAS (DOUBTS)

Para los puristas, el fútbol se juega a tres velocidades. Al paso en defensa, al trote en el medio campo y al galope arriba. Y si intentamos interpretar el juego que el Almería hizo el pasado sábado frente al Athletic de Bilbao, utilizando como referencia esta máxima, tendríamos que decir que los defensas y los delanteros ajustaron de manera razonable su fútbol a la velocidad que les correspondía, pero que el centro del campo se perdió en buscarla.

Y hablar del centro del campo es volver a hablar del trivote. Francisco ha utilizado en dos ocasiones este sistema de juego en casa y las dos veces ha perdido (frente al Atlético de Madrid y frente al Athletic de Bilbao). Por el contrario, hacerlo lejos del Mediterráneo ha hecho que el equipo se coloque octavo en una hipotética clasificación foránea. Y todo esto genera dudas en el entrenador. Tantas que en cuanto las cosas se tuercen, renuncia a sí mismo y deshace el sistema. Y así sucedió en el último encuentro. Después de que Etxeita marcara un gol adornado de rechaces y despropósitos –como no podía ser de otra manera, dada la calidad del juego practicada durante todo el partido por ambos equipos–, Francisco retiró del campo a dos de los tres jugadores que formaban el trivote (Azeez y Verza) y reordenó el equipo.

El resultado de la estrategia no fue bueno y el juego mantuvo su pobreza, lo que hace que crezcan las dudas. Y a todo ello se le suma que Teerasil ni se vistiera –no fue convocado– y que Quique González no jugara ni un minuto. A falta de juego, los goles suelen ser un buen analgésico, pero cuando los entrenadores se enredan en un nudo de indecisiones, no suelen llegar ni el uno ni los otros. Mientras el entrenador se entretiene en decidir a qué va a jugar el equipo, ha perdido la confianza en dos de sus cuatro delanteros. Confiemos en que pronto dé con la tecla y el fútbol, como los goles de los delanteros del equipo, aparezcan de una vez.

For purists, football is played at three speeds: pace for defenders, trot for midfielders and gallop for forwards. And if we try to interpret the game that Almería carried out against Athletic Club de Bilbao last Saturday, using this key principle as a reference, we would have to say that the defenders and forwards adjusted their play to the corresponding speed in a reasonable way, but the midfielders got lost while looking for it.

And speaking about the midfield is speaking about the “trivote” again. Francisco has used this game system at home twice and, in both occasions, he has lost (against Atlético de Madrid and against Athletic de Bilbao). On the contrary, using it far from the Mediterranean Sea has made the team be eighth of a hypothetical league table as visiting team. And all this leaves the coach with doubts, so many doubts that as soon as things go wrong, he renounces himself and undoes the system. And this happened during the last match. After Etxeita scored a goal embellished with rebounds and absurdities –as could not be otherwise, considering the quality of the game played by both teams during the whole match–, Francisco substituted two out of three players that constituted the “trivote” (Azeez and Verza) and reordered the team.

The result of the strategy was not good and the play maintained its line, which makes doubts grow. In addition, Teerasil did not even get dressed –he was not selected– and Quique González did not even play a minute. In the absence of play, goals are usually a good analgesic but, when coaches tangle with a knot of indecisions neither good play nor goals take place. While the coach is distracted by deciding what the team is going to play, he has lost confidence in two out of four forwards. Let us hope that he will hit the nail on the head soon so good football as well as goals scored by the forwards of the team finally appear.
