VISITANTE (VISITOR)

En los cuatro partidos que la UD Almería ha disputado en casa, el equipo sólo ha conseguido tres puntos, mientras que de los tres litigados lejos de nuestra tierra, los de Francisco se han traído un botín de seis. Quizá todavía sea pronto para extraer de estos datos como un teorema. A lo mejor, estadísticamente, no es significativo el número de partidos jugados como para poder sacar conclusiones fiables. Pero más allá de consideraciones matemáticamente juiciosas y lejos de la frialdad de las fórmulas algebraicas, la impresión de que el equipo se siente más cómodo como foráneo que como local está ahí.

Quizá cabría entrar a valorar cada partido de manera individual para entender por qué pasa esto. Pero por motivos formales voy a centrarme en este último, el disputado contra el Elche, en el que el equipo tuvo que ir todo el encuentro a remolque. Yo me acordé de algo que escribió el escritor Juanjo Millás tras el partido que nuestra selección perdió contra Holanda en el reciente mundial de Brasil donde decía que “España, a diferencia de Robben, jugó sin rabia”. En fútbol, la necesidad unas veces es un lastre y otras veces un motor. Para el Elche de Fran Escribá, fue lo segundo y el equipo empujó mucho más desde el principio. Luego, al cambiar las circunstancias del partido con el temprano gol de Víctor, la necesidad y la rabia mudó su vestimenta y se vistió de rojiblanco. Y entonces el Almería fue capaz de marcar para empatar el partido hasta en dos ocasiones.

Lo que está claro es que al Almería le cuesta llevar la iniciativa. Todavía no le hemos visto afrontar un partido con la intención de dominar el balón e imponer el ritmo de juego. Es posible que sea un reflejo de equipo pequeño. O a lo mejor no es sino la postura más cuerda que puede adoptar su entrenador, que se sabe inferior sobre el papel a la mayoría de los equipos de la liga. En cualquier caso, es más que posible que este año las mayores alegrías nos las llevemos en la distancia.

In the four games that UD Almería has played at home, the team has only got three points whereas, in the three games played far from our region, Francisco’s players have obtained a payoff of six points. Perhaps it is still soon to interpret these data as a theorem. Maybe, statistically, the number of games is not significant to make reliable conclusions. But, beyond mathematically sensible considerations and far from algebraic formulas’ coldness, the impression that the team feels more comfortable as foreign instead of local exists.

 

Perhaps it would be necessary to analyse each game individually to understand why this is taking place. But due to formal reasons, I am going to focus on the last one, the game against Elche, in which the team was lagging behind throughout the game. I remembered something that the writer Juanjo Millás wrote after the game that our national team lost against the Netherlands in the recent World Cup Brazil in which he said that “Spain, unlike Robben, played without rage.” In football, the need is sometimes a dead weight and an engine other times. For Fran Escribá’s Elche, it was the second one and the team pushed much more from the beginning. Then, when the circumstances of the game changed because of Victor’s early goal, need and rage shed their clothing and dressed in red and white clothes. And then, Almería was able to score to draw the game in two occasions.

What is clear is that Almería finds it difficult to take the initiative. We have not seen the team facing a game with intention of controlling the ball and imposing the tempo. It is posible that this is a reflection of small team. Or perhaps it is the most sensible attitude tha the coach may adopt knowing that the team is, on paper, inferior in comparison with most of league teams. In any case, it is really posible that the greatest joys for us this year will take place far from home.
